Amanda's Story

I'd like to share my story of being diagnosed with vaginal cancer in January 2017 at the age of 28. Only 250 women a year are diagnosed with vaginal cancer and a majority of them are 60+. I'm an extremely rare case from what I've been told!

I would like to highlight how cancer can affect anyone at any point in their life unexpectedly. How sometimes there's no tests to prevent it, just good old knowing your body and having a feel! How tests to prevent other cancers are also so important!!!

I would like to share my experiences of chemotherapy, radiotherapy and brachytherapy. How these treatments have made me infertile, menopausal, how my insides are all old and naff before the age of 30, and how when I got the news that my vaginal cancer had gone, on my 3 month post treatment scan, I then had to deal with the knowledge that it has gone metastatic and now spread to my lungs. So woohoo an upgrade, and not in a good way, to stage 4.

I'd really love to share my cancer story and promote the importance of smears and gynae health in women and why it's important for young girls to get the HPV vaccine and why it needs to be enforced upon young boys too.
