What’s On Glasgow Bowling Meet-Up STRIIIIIIIIIIKE! Let's get together for another Glasgow meet-up at Hollywood Bowl for a morning knocking over some pins (hopefully?), hanging out with new people and connecting with others in the same boat. Afterwards we'll grab a drink and snack but don't worry about bringing your card - this one's on us. Fancy it? Get Saturday 10th September in your diary and sign up below. A bit nervous about coming on your own? We get it, plus ones are *SO* welcome. Parking is available onsite and the bowling is also fully accessible. When joining us for the meet-up we ask you to follow Covid-19 procedures by wearing a mask when travelling to the event and, if you can, taking a lateral flow test at least 48 hours before attending. Need help with travel costs? We offer travel bursaries for anyone attending our events. Just complete our travel bursary form (word and PDF copy) and send us your travel receipts. MEET YOUR HOSTS: Nicola was diagnosed with Stage 2 cervical cancer in 2018. After finishing treatment she's now navigating early menopause and pelvic radiation disease so she knows how valuable it is to hang out with others who've had cancer, especially those who might also be experiencing these late effects from treatment. "When I was diagnosed I felt isolated from my peers. I was often the youngest person on the ward and at support groups by at least 20 years. I couldn't relate to others talking about early retirement and their grandkids. When I discovered Trekstock on Instagram a year out of treatment, it felt like everything I was feeling made sense and I had finally found my community. To be able to spend time with other young adults with the same experiences and worries was life-changing for me." "I attended Meet & Move in Edinburgh, several meet ups, online Pilates classes and the online RENEW exercise programme. Trekstock enabled me to reclaim my sense of self as a young adult with cancer, see life beyond a cancer diagnosis and gave me hope for the future. I am really looking forward to hosting the first Glasgow and the first Scottish meet up since February 2020. It will be amazing to bring people together again to help to reduce isolation from treatment and the pandemic. I look forward to meeting you, along with Grace in March." Grace was diagnosed with Stage 3 endometrial cancer at the end of 2019 and is now on immunotherapy. She loves being outdoors and getting into nature. She's an avid wild swimmer and loves getting out into Loch Lomond. She also loves getting out with her dog and is so grateful to live next to Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park. "I found Trekstock through Instagram and felt so grateful to have found an organisation that focuses on young adults. It felt very lonely to be the youngest face in the oncology centre. Every time I went, I hoped to see someone who was a similar age to me! I am really looking forward to the meet-up. One thing I’ve missed during the pandemic is having access to an in-person community of people who understand what it’s like to have gone through or live with a cancer diagnosis. I am also looking forward to getting to know Glasgow better as I live a little way out of the city." Booking for this event has now closed.
