testicular cancer

What age were you diagnosed?

29

What has helped you to thrive?

Since my diagnosis, I have run 4 marathons, climbed mountains, cycled London to Paris, done numerous stand up comedy gigs, and this is just another challenge to conquer. Life sometimes throws us some unexpected problems but you just have to roll with the punches and keep fighting back. Life is good.

Af's Story

I had just finished working at the Rio 2016 Olympics and was living next to Copacabana Beach and about to travel South and North America before I looked for a new job and a new place to live. The day before I was flying to Argentina I went to the hospital for antibiotics for want I thought was an infection. They said it was a tumour and I flew back to England the next day instead.

Whilst feeling sick in Brazil and reading about testicular cancer, it says that you normally find a painless lump on the testicle, whereas I had a painful lump inside the testicle so I ruled out cancer and didn't get treatment as quick as I should have done. As a result it had spread to my lymph nodes near my kidneys, I was going to have to have chemotherapy.
