My family, close friends and boyfriend has helped me thrive since my diagnosis. I am incredibly lucky to have such a close family and especially my younger sisters, I need to get better for them! Having my parents, sisters and boyfriend by my side every single day and night whilst I was in hospital, especially over Christmas and New Year really boosted me to keep positive and do the best I could given the horrendous circumstances. Georgina's Story On 13th August 2018 I went to my GP with symptoms such as extreme fatigue and blurred vision (so nothing specific or linked to cancer in particular) however I did have a temperature and my Doctor suspected meningitis. After my first ever blood test a few hours later, I was rushed, 32 miles away from home to QEHB and onto the TCT YPU where I was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic leukaemia and my only chance of survival, was to have a stem cell transplant. I began chemotherapy just four days later to control my blood cancer whilst my 10/10 Czech Republican donor was found and I began my stem cell transplant journey in December 2018. I am now cancer-free but I remain on daily chemotherapy tablets each day to prevent my aggressive form of cancer returning so now I am trying to adjust to this post-cancer “new normal”.
