What cancer were you diagnosed with?

Acute Lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL)

What age were you diagnosed?

18

What has helped you to thrive?

My family, close friends and boyfriend has helped me thrive since my diagnosis. I am incredibly lucky to have such a close family and especially my younger sisters, I need to get better for them! Having my parents, sisters and boyfriend by my side every single day and night whilst I was in hospital, especially over Christmas and New Year really boosted me to keep positive and do the best I could given the horrendous circumstances.

Georgina's Story

On 13th August 2018 I went to my GP with symptoms such as extreme fatigue and blurred vision (so nothing specific or linked to cancer in particular) however I did have a temperature and my Doctor suspected meningitis. After my first ever blood test a few hours later, I was rushed, 32 miles away from home to QEHB and onto the TCT YPU where I was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic leukaemia and my only chance of survival, was to have a stem cell transplant. I began chemotherapy just four days later to control my blood cancer whilst my 10/10 Czech Republican donor was found and I began my stem cell transplant journey in December 2018. I am now cancer-free but I remain on daily chemotherapy tablets each day to prevent my aggressive form of cancer returning so now I am trying to adjust to this post-cancer “new normal”.
