What has helped you to thrive?

I consider myself to be a strong person but dealing with a cancer diagnosis is something else and I couldn’t have done it without the support of my friends and family. They are always looking out for me and for that I’m so lucky and feel truly grateful to have them along on this journey with me.

Kat's Story

I was first diagnosed with breast cancer in January 2020 at the age of 31, just ahead of the first lockdown. Thankfully COVID did not affect any of my operations, scans, or treatment during that year. I found the lump in my breast when I returned from traveling and immediately got in touch with my GP to get it checked out as I realise the importance of going to your doctor if you find something that isn’t your norm.

They referred me to the breast clinic and after having various tests and biopsies I was later told that I had breast cancer. Following operations, I started to experience excruciating back pain to the point where I struggled to move. It was then that I was told that the cancer had spread to my bones and also to my liver - it is now Stage 4 and incurable. After various courses of chemotherapy, we finally found one that reduced the tumours and stabilised the cancer in my bones and that’s where I am now. Living from scan to scan, just hoping that my cancer remains stable.
