Paddles at the ready! Join us for our first Meet & Paddle event of 2022. Let's get away from Zoom, meet up face to face, and enjoy an afternoon together at Channel Kayaks.

Are you ready to get your paddle on? Join us on Saturday 21st May for a guided Katakanu paddle along the River Avon. You'll have a chance to enjoy the activity whilst meeting other young adults in their 20s or 30s who get what it's like to be living beyond cancer. Suitable for all abilities and plus 1's are also welcome.

We know you may be feeling nervous about getting together and meeting people in person again, which is why we've taken every precaution to ensure your safety both before and during this event.

All equipment that you'll be using will have been thoroughly cleaned along with all seating, changing areas and communal spaces. Each of the Katakanu boats seats 4 people, so you'll be nicely spaced out. The instructors will accompany us on paddleboards for the session and if necessary will assist with paddling the boats.

Our 2 hour session will give you chance to have an introduction to the Katakanu by the instructors, get out the river for our session at a relaxed and enjoyable pace. Buoyancy aids will of course be provided.

In order to reduce the COVID risk to the smallest possible risk we can only offer places for this event to those who've already completed active treatment. This has been a hard but necessary decision to ensure your safety.

MEET YOUR HOSTS:

Helen was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma at 29 and knows what it's like to cope with the impact cancer can have on your life and living with the fear of uncertainty. In her spare time Helen loves doing sports, especially softball and netball. Furthermore, she has recently taken up wild swimming and braves the cold water. Helen also has a miniature labradoodle called Luna who she enjoys going on long walks with.

“Whilst the chemotherapy was tough, it was manageable and ultimately when I felt unwell, it made me think that the treatment was working. But it’s the mental challenge that is far greater. After I finished treatment, I expected life to go back to normal, but the reality is much harder. I felt fearful of my future, isolated and unsure how to move on from cancer. Trekstock helped me to connect with others who understood what I was going through. I enjoyed going to their meet ups and participating in fun activities all whilst making new friends. “
