I found out I had the BRCA2+ gene when I was 26. From that year on, I have been having annual MRI’s as was considered at high risk of developing breast cancer.

In April 2019, the MRI showed an abnormality on my right breast and after a biopsy it was classified as benign. At the end of January 2020 my annual MRI was due and this time it showed a 5cm tumour, breast cancer with lymph nodes affected.

I was obliged to visit the fertility clinic before any chemotherapy treatment began. The two-week wait for the appointment was wasted; the results from the CT scan showed 3 lesions in the liver. One week later, I got the PET scan results, a small spot with cancer was found in the spine. 

I still remember the Breast Consultant's words when I went to see him in 2016 for advice regarding preventative surgery – "If you have annual MRI’s we will catch it at an early stage." He was the same consultant who told me I had cancer in my liver and I would live for 2-5 years max.

On top of that, COVID-19 made things even more difficult. I couldn’t see or meet anyone going through the same thing as me and I felt very isolated. Luckily, I found Nicky Newman on IG and I have to say that she has been very inspiring. Although COVID-19 is still threatening us, I hope to make new friends at Trekstock soon and forget all those months of loneliness.

After 3 months of weekly chemotherapy from March to May, the tumour and lessions in my lymph nodes, liver and bone have disappeared. I just had a lumpectomy and axillary nodes removed which were all clear so I will be ready for to start radiotherapy in November.
