I originally trained as a psychiatric nurse and then specialized in treating people with drug and alcohol problems. Against my wishes I was given responsibility for a smokers clinic, but in the end I loved working with this patient group. The nature of addiction is a constant surprise and the health gains of stopping smoking, not to mention the personal pride felt by the smoker themselves, is a constant inspiration.

When 11 years old my son was diagnosed with Ewing’s sarcoma (bone cancer), he is still here now aged 19 and it has been some journey.
