Trekstock Cancer Support Rallies Behind One Cancer Voice Coalition at Parliament

Trekstock Cancer Support recently joined over 60 charities as part of the One Cancer Voice (OCV) coalition outside Parliament, demanding that the Government's forthcoming National Cancer Plan delivers on its promises of world-leading action against cancer.
At the event, charity representatives, including Amy and Nat from Trekstock Cancer Support, held up personalised jigsaw pieces to signify the urgent need for Government action. The demonstration conveyed a clear message: the "missing piece of the jigsaw" is a plan that turns commitments into action, guaranteeing earlier diagnoses, better outcomes, and equitable access to life-saving treatments for all.
"As a cancer patient and proud member of the Trekstock team, I was honoured to participate in a powerful coming together outside the Houses of Parliament to emphasise the significance of the National Cancer Plan. Alongside fellow charities, we constructed a massive jigsaw puzzle, showcasing vital cancer statistics and key messages. We flipped the pieces to unveil a unified message highlighting the alarming projection of 6.3 million cancer cases by 2040.
Campaigners cautioned that cancer services are already under considerable strain, emphasising the necessity for immediate action. By 2040, an individual in England will be diagnosed with cancer every two minutes, with more than 6.3 million new cases anticipated.
This collaborative effort symbolised the strength and determination of our collective voices as we called for the highest standard in cancer care. Together, we made a compelling statement that urged the Government to prioritise cancer services, because we know that cancer doesn't stop when treatment ends." Nat
In anticipation of the National Cancer Plan for England, the One Cancer Voice coalition has outlined six critical steps the plan must take to effectively combat cancer:
1. Commit to meeting all cancer wait times by 2029 (the end of this Parliament)
2. Establish a new earlier diagnosis target, improve screening programs, and bolster primary care to minimize later-stage cancer diagnoses
3. Implement robust prevention policies targeting major risk factors
4. Ensure every patient receives the best possible treatment and tackle inequalities
5. Enhance access to clinical trials for cancer patients, establishing the NHS as a global leader in cancer research and innovation
6. Provide comprehensive practical and emotional support for individuals living with and beyond cancer
Trekstock Cancer Support remains dedicated to advocating for these crucial measures, collaborating with the One Cancer Voice coalition and partner charities to urge the Government to prioritise cancer care and improve outcomes for patients across England.
