Finding Your Voice - Writing

Join Alice-May Purkiss, writer and coach in London this June for a chance to flex your creative muscles. As part of our Find Your Voice series, Alice will hold space for people navigating life alongside and after cancer to explore their experiences through writing. The workshop will be a chance to explore fiction, essays, prose and poetry and will offer participants the chance to improve their writing skills and experience the impact creativity can have on overall wellbeing.

Expect creative prompts, tips and a supportive space to explore differently. You don't need to be an experienced writer - everyone's welcome. Just bring a hearty dose of curiosity and playfulness with you to the session.

"I'm a huge believer in the power of creativity to help us figure out what we've been through and writing has always been my method for doing that. I work with people who've had cancer to help them find a language for their experiences and to see just how powerful writing about what we've been through can help. I'm also really passionate about making sure people who tell their stories around cancer are supported to do so in a way that works for them - so you can expect a safe space to examine whatever comes up for you." Alice-May Purkiss

Need to knows:

  • Refreshments will be provided
  • Travel bursaries may be available on request
  • A great opportunity to meet others who get it
  • We'll be taking photos throughout the session so let us know if you don't want to be photographed
  • Feel free to bring a laptop if that's how you prefer to write! Otherwise pen and paper is fine

Meet Alice-May Purkiss

You might recognise Alice from her podcast AfterThoughts (or maybe you'll just know the sound of her voice). Diagnosed with breast cancer age 26, she explored her diagnosis and treatment through an award winning blog.

Since then, she's written for publications including Red, Women's Running, The Independent, Psychologies and Stylist. Now, she's a coach who specialises in the sweet spot between creativity and wellbeing.
