We are over the moon to announce that the incredible Lauren Mahon has become Trekstock's newest Young Adult Ambassador.

Our Young Adult Ambassadors are an integral part of Trekstock. They lend their voices to help us to raise awareness and are passionate about helping us change the future for those affected by cancer in their 20s and 30s.

"Trekstock were a lifeline to me from the point of diagnosis and being able to give back to this incredible charity via Ambassadorship is such an honour!" - Lauren Mahon, Trekstock Young Adult Ambassador

On 31st August 2016, Lauren was diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer. The doctors found an aggressive 2.8cm cancerous lump in her right chesticle, without consent, and sent her life as she knew it into a tailspin.

Desperate for some reassurance and carcinoma companionship Lauren went looking for like-minded women who had faced the c-bomb for advice and encouragement. Unfortunately, she mostly found doomsaying online communities and clinical materials that were aimed at women in a more advanced life stage. It didn’t speak to her. At all.

Fed up of the perception that "cancer is a disease for the over 50s", Lauren decided to grab her breast cancer diagnosis by the boobs and began sharing the nuances of her cancer-beating crusade on her blog and Instagram under the hashtag #GIRLvsCANCER. Lauren’s aim was to share the tales of her treatment in an authentic and accessible way in an attempt to tackle the cancer taboo and create a better understanding of the challenges facing those diagnosed with cancer in their 20’s + 30’s.

"Trekstock found me very early on in my cancer ‘journey’. After stalking me on Instagram, founder Sophie Epstone slid into my DM’s and the network has since formed a large chunk of my support system. During the darkest time of my life, the incredible team at Trekstock have held my hand and I’ll never be able to repay them for what they have done for me."

During the last twelve months, GIRLvsCANCER has grown from an emotional outlet to an established community supporting those touched by the tumorous little twat, and beyond. Lauren is working hard to change the way people perceive cancer and is opening a dialogue on this sensitive subject.

"I hope to support young adults on the mental health struggles and often crisis of identity that a cancer diagnosis can encourage - whether it's relationships, work or lifestyle." - Lauren Mahon, Trekstock Young Adult Ambassador
